Every year, I look forward to the Multicultural Expo organized in Fort McMurray. I have been volunteering with them since 2007! Way back then, I would gather all the children from our community, specially kids from India, up on the stage to dance. I used to do live performance as a singer with them. Eventually, children grew up, new families came to our community, with younger children. Parents were home sick, always scared that children would forget their roots in a foreign land. I remember, going door to door, requesting new families in Fort McMurray, who were also new comers to Canada, to come and join me at the Multi Cultural Expo. My heart was filled with pride to see every one around come and join this year's Multicultural Expo with joy and a little slice of flavor of home. My heart with brimmed with pride, when children around, in their national costumes from several different costumes around the world, came and asked my co workers about their " Aunty Sudarshana, who works at RBC". I had the incredible opportunity to take photos with super talented artists, poets and community leaders at the event. Finally, a lesson that I learn every year and forget the next year; come to the event with an empty stomach. Tradition of Fort McMurray is, no matter where you come from, if you are at our door step, you must eat and never leave hungry; because that is what families do when you visit them.
